If you don’t have the time to travel to a local gym, the best alternative is having a gym at home. While gym’s hold plenty of equipment, weights, machines and other workout gear, not all of our homes have enough room to gather everything needed. What if you don’t have a specific room or enough room at all to keep all the equipment needed?

Lewith & Freeman’s real estate agents have seen many ways home owners improvise on utilizing space. That means with their help, your home gym will be your new favorite go-to space. Here are their recommendations on transforming a room and transforming yourself while making an amazing at-home gym.

No room for machines? No problem.

If you don’t have the room for an elliptical, treadmill, weights and bar, and the many other specialized machines, you can improvise. As long as you have a television or tablet, all types of workout videos are easily accessible. There are even websites with customized workout plans and videos to go with them. You will find there is minimal equipment needed in the videos that is easy to purchase in a sports store nearby.

The space needed for small weights, resistances bands, a jump rope and possibly a few other items is much less significant than the larger machines. The more and more you workout at home, the more your creative juices will flow to help continue your at-home fitness journey.

Stick to the basics and storage.

With all the gym odd ands end you will now be purchasing and piling up, you don’t want to forget your home etiquette basics: keep it all organized. The best ways to create your space and have a place to put it all is with shelving, storage crates, or even a compact storage ottoman.

Shelving helps with keeping your equipment off the floor and still easily accessible during workout videos. While our Realtors don’t recommend storing weights on them to avoid pulls and large holes in the wall, any other equipment can be placed out of the way. There are also plenty of shelving units with hooks and handles to hang gear from. Storage bins and crates are an easy way to organize, while a storage ottoman is less obvious and more stylish. The options are endless and completely up to you.

Make it your workout space.

If you really want to add the extra gym flare, find an appropriately sized mirror to hang. Not only can you check your techniques and form, but for some personal styling and to keep the room in touch, find a mirror with decorative border. Also, from an interior decorators stand point, mirrors help to make smaller spaces look bigger because they reflect light. For a cushioned floor, a carpet, yoga mat, or other foam flooring of your style or pattern are always a great idea.

The extras.

Don’t forget to keep a bottle of sanitizing spray on your shelf to clean up after you break a sweat. You can also hand a calendar nearby so you keep track of when its leg day, cardio days, or even rest day, and to keep your goals on track. For an even larger home gym project, paint the walls a color that screams energy and excitement, such as red, orange, or yellow.

Don't let a minimal amount of space deter you from really going all out with your workout or by any means not working out at all. Mainly, feel free to find the perfect spot in your home that you are most comfortable with and motivates you!
