Can I make an offer before selling my current home?

What is a contingency offer? 

A contingency offer is one where an offer on a home is made an accepted, but conditional upon terms that the buyer and seller agree upon. Typically, these contingency offers are contingent upon appraisal, home inspection, or approval of a mortgage.
