This month, we once again took advantage of the location of our area and visited La Cabra Brewing in Berwyn, PA. About an hour and a half away from us, La Cabra offers crisp and refreshing beers that pair wonderfully with their Latin-inspired gastropub fare.

7 Barrel Brew House

La Cabra’s brewer—experienced homebrewer Dan Popernack—creates a range of beers for everyone. Their ferment their beers in stainless steel while also barrel-aging select brews. His beers have been refereed to as "the best you haven't tasted," so I was more than ready to try some out.

Having opened in October of 2016, their business has grown a lot in a pretty short time. They also host events at their brewery, including a Suburban Love Pop-Up Beer Garden, which we attended. Featuring other breweries (and a cidery) in your parking lot is an interesting concept for a brewery, but it brings beer-lovers together! They also offer other events including yoga and mac and cheese cookoff events. I think it's clear that they care about the culture and people who come to enjoy their brews, and it's reflected in events like these.

Located across the street from the Berwyn train station, La Cabra’s building features exposed brick, worn wood, and goat wall paper. “La Cabra,” after all, means “the goat.” Their building dates back to the 1800s and was renovated by Chris Linton, who also constructed Conshohocken Brewing Company and Tired Hands Brewing Company—two other PA breweries.

With two levels of dining room and two bars, La Cabra offers private happy hours, birthday parties, second-floor rentals for parties between 40 and 150, and more.

Now, for the food and drinks

I’m a big fan of sours, and the first beer on their list was the “Pela,” a tangerine Gose with a nice tart flavor. I also tried their “Leo,” which was a smooth IPA. Select PA wines are also available, if you’re feeling a nice glass of wine with your meal, or a glass of cider. They offer a rotating, fourteen tap system, and you can always see what’s on tap here.

La Cabra Brewing

Executive Chef Jared Frazer has created a simple menu in the sense that it isn’t overwhelming. Offering plenty of options from burgers to lamb and tacos to salads. A children's menu means La Cabra is family-friendly, too!

Luckily, my dining companion upgraded to the Parmesan truffle fries so I opted for the side salad with my Poblano & Mushroom tacos and split the fries with him. My tacos were amazing—a nice almond picada offered a nice crunch to compliment to mushrooms.

On the other hand, those parm truffle fries I mentioned before were paired with a Shaved Ribeye sandwich on a ciabatta roll. All beers paired well with our food, showing that they have a well thought out menu that isn’t overpowered by their beer.

Funny enough, it turned out our waiter was a Scranton native! So, if you take a visit out to La Cabra, ask for the guy from Scranton and tell him I said hello!
