Located in Pittston, PA, Susquehanna Brewing Company (SBC) opened its doors over 5 years ago and has been going strong ever since. They feature food trucks in the spring and summer and just last year picked up an area tradition of hosting Oktoberfest.

Building the tasting room at Susquehanna Brewing Co.

Founded in 2012, the families of SBC have been brewing beer since the 1840s. Not long after the brewery began making and selling their beer, they built a tasting room in their Pittston brewery. They opened the tasting room after PA changed their allowing breweries to sell pints of beer on premise. Before that, anything a brewery sold needed to be capped and consumed offsite.

Today, their tasting room offers their regular brews, seasonal recipes, and experimental ones. The tasting room is a great opportunity for SBC to try new things and get a feel for what their customers like and want to see more of.

The tasting room features a large glass window and seating that allows people to watch their favorite beers being made! With Summer hours on Wednesday-Saturday from 12-10 pm and Sunday from 12-8 pm, there’s plenty of opportunities to fit in the experience. Additionally, the brewery offers free tours on Saturday at 2 and 4 pm, as well as at 2 pm on Sunday.

After you’re done enjoying your beer, you can also pick up cases, 6-packs, shirts, and other merchandise for sale in the in the tasting room.

Events at SBC and Award-Winning Brews

Recently, I attended a local studio's yoga class  held inside the brewery at SBC. We set up right in front of the tanks and enjoyed an hour-long stretch session, then moved into the tasting room to enjoy a few pints (we earned them after yoga!).

Events like this happen regularly at SBC. Past events have included Car Cruise, tasting room beer releases, cornhole tournaments, and more. Just last year they held their first Oktoberfest, a tradition we hope to see back this year and for many to come.

SBC has earned many awards for their beers. More recently, their Shady Spot—a lemon shandy—won the gold medal at the World Beer Cup in the fruit beer category. Their lemonade-infused ale is made with great care; they hand-blend the lemon mixture for each batch. And that hard work certainly paid off!

At the event I attended, I happily enjoyed two pints of their Sunny Spot Grapefruit Shandy—because the weather is finally turning and ‘tis the season! It was light and refreshing, at under 5%, and they lined my second glass with sugar to sweeten it up even more (definitely try this at home). It will certainly become my summer beverage of choice.
