NEPA Breweries: Neshaminy Creek Brewing

Neshaminy Creek in Croydon, PA—outside of Philadelphia—is a relatively new brewery to me. Recently, they opened the Borough Brewhouse in Jenkintown, PA, which is where we drove out to for this month’s NEPA Brewery spotlight.

Neshaminy Creek's Two Locations

Neshaminy Creek Brewing Company opened their first location in Croydon, PA. Founded in 2010, the brewery gets its name from the nearby Neshaminy Creek. The brewery actually uses water from this creek in the brewing process.

Yes, we do use Neshaminy Creek water in all our brews.

Their beers have won many awards, including two Great American Beer Festival (GABF) medals for their Vienna-style lager, Churchville Lager, and a Bronze medal for their German Rauchbier, Croydon is Burning. They were named the brewery of the year three years in a row (2015-2017) in Philly Beer Scene Magazine.

The brewery's artwork is also a focal point of both their beers and their brewhouse. The walls are covered in the same art that you’ll find on their products and it’s a sight to take in. Check out their beer offerings, which each feature unique artwork, here!

Their main production location is their facility in Croydon. Here, you can enjoy pints and flights alongside food provided by rotating food trucks that visit the brewery. For the kids (kida at heart, too), there are an array of arcade games to play. Plus, the location is pet friendly!

Their motto is “brew anything.”

Their new location, the Neshaminy Creek Borough Brewhouse, holds a 10 BBL DME brewing system, which they plan to use to brew beer specific to that location. The bar features a 30-tap draft system that includes beer from their Croydon location.

We Visited Their New Location

Pairing good food with anything I drink is important to me--the two rely on each other. Every pairing at the Borough Brewhouse has been carefully thought about by their staff, and it shows. The staff at this location is working with Executive Chef Max Hosey to create a menu that simply delivers. When we were there, I enjoyed a burger (which you can see below, and trust me--it didn't need a bun) paired with a side salad—what I believe to be one of the best meals to pair with a good beer.

Their beer delivers, too. I’m a stout girl and I ordered their Mudbank Milk Stout and tried some of their DIPA, A Good Problem to Have (one of their semi-annual offerings). If you like hops, you’re going to love that one. For me, when the weather is still a little chilly, as it was when we visited, there’s nothing better than a creamy, chocolaty, coffee-tasting beer. Neither my meal or beer overpowered the other and I was able to enjoy everything as an entire meal.

If you’re in the Philadelphia area, I definitely recommend that you take the drive out to Neshaminy Creek’s brewhouse for a nice sit-down dinner and some good brews. If you’re looking for something quicker, their original location is fun and great for the whole family. Either way, you can't go wrong with Neshaminy Creek.
