If you're interested in the hygge trend of warmth and coziness we talked about last week, but don't know where to start, look no further!

Fortunately for you, your interest in this Danish trend has practically no limits! All you have to do is stop and think: what makes me feel warm and cozy? What makes me happy?

But maybe you need a little direction in your quest beyond hot cocoa and cabin socks. Here we've collected some of the easiest and least expensive ways to bring hygge into your home decor:

1. Candles

When it comes to creating atmosphere, lighting is key. And when it comes to making your home feel warm and snuggly, it doesn't get much better than candles.

We love candles because they can be found virtually anywhere and come in a variety of shapes, sizes, and scents, making them a perfect fit for any room of your house. The flickering of the flame adds the nice touch of a warm glow, too.

If you want to avoid open flames due to small children, pets, or for any other reason, you can still achieve the warm candle effect using battery-operated flameless candles instead. Many of these candles can operate on a timer so all you need to do is set it and forget it (until they require replacement batteries!).

2. Accent Lighting

Either instead of or in addition to candles, accent lighting can further give your space a very warm and welcoming feeling.

Vintage-style light bulbs are very popular to create atmosphere inside and outside the home. It's important to note, however, that while old-fashioned bulbs create a warm glow and welcoming ambiance with a variety of colors, they are less efficient than fluorescent and LED. lamps. But fear not! There are companies that are making LED incandescent-style bulbs so you can achieve that antique look without paying the price on your electricity bill.

String lights are another popular method to add some extra accent lighting to the dark corner os your house. Not just for Christmas trees anymore, "fairy lights" can be hung from bed canopies, draped across the ceiling, or used in terrariums/vases/wine bottles to make a pretty decoration. With battery-powered, solar, and wired lights, the possibilities for cozy decor are nearly endless.

3. Photographs

If you have albums upon albums or boxes upon boxes full of old family photos, it might be time to introduce them to the world (or at least to the company you invite over).

Surrounding yourself with loved ones might be one of the coziest feelings in the world, but isn't always be convenient (or possible). One of our favorite ways to keep that feeling ever-present is by displaying photos all over the house. For that true burst of nostalgia, see if you can find some old ones, too--vintage black and white or sepia photographs will add some interesting variety to your walls. If you're worried about exposing your old photos to too much light, have copies made and display those instead--that way you still get to enjoy looking at them.

Creating gallery walls and wall collages are incredibly popular to decorate a big space, but small framed pictures always make a nice addition to wall shelves and end tables. Do what makes you feel good about your space!

4. Wall Color

Don't underestimate color's ability to completely transform a space! You don't have to believe in color theory to recognize that two different colors can give you two completely different feelings regarding interior design. If you feel as though your space is too bright, and you're looking for something a little cozier, consider toning the walls down a bit. Ditch the white or "eggshell" in favor of grays and browns. While too dark a wall color can easily overwhelm a room, it can just as easily create that warm and cozy interior you've been dreaming about.

5. Hygge Decor

Ok, so this might seem like a cop-out, but it's not! Simply adding a few new design elements to a room can completely transform a space and make it yours--but it's up for you to decide! Go with what makes you comfortable and is in line with your own personal tastes.

Blankets are a surefire way to get warm and cozy! Oversized throws, cable knit blankets, and even faux fur can turn even the most mediocre couch into a nap-worthy location.

Rugs, especially thick woven ones, feel nice and warm to the naked foot when compared to tile or hardwood. Even if you have carpet throughout your home, layering accent rugs, such as shag or sheepskin (or faux sheepskin), is always a cozy touch.

Pillows are a great way to add both color and coziness to a room--what says warm and cozy more than a heaping pile of pillows?

Oversized furniture that you can really sink into are perfect for reading, napping, or simply enjoying a roaring fire in your PJs. A soft, overstuffed leather recliner plus an abundance of pillows and blankets sounds like the perfect way to spend a weekend in.
